Frequently Asked Questions

Will an air source heat pump keep my home warm in winter?

Yes, modern air source heat pumps are specifically designed for the UK climate.

They continue to operate efficiently in temperatures well below freezing, extracting heat from the outside air even when it feels cold. When correctly sized and professionally installed, they provide steady, comfortable heating throughout the winter months.

Do I need to replace my radiators?

Not always, but in some homes, upgrades may be recommended.

Air source heat pumps operate at lower flow temperatures than traditional gas boilers, which means larger radiators can improve performance and overall efficiency. During your home survey, we carefully assess your existing system and only recommend changes where genuinely necessary to ensure consistent warmth and optimal efficiency.

Air source heat pumps also work exceptionally well with underfloor heating. Because underfloor systems run at lower temperatures and distribute heat evenly across a larger surface area, they pair perfectly with heat pump technology. If you're planning a full renovation or refurb, this is definitely something worth considering for maximum comfort and efficiency.

How noisy is an air source heat pump?

Air source heat pumps are much quieter than most people expect.

The outdoor unit produces a low hum, similar to a modern fridge or air conditioning unit. When positioned and installed correctly, it should not cause disruption to you or your neighbours. We always consider placement carefully during installation.

Will I need planning permission?

In most cases, air source heat pumps fall under permitted development rights in England and Wales, meaning planning permission is not required.

There are some exceptions, such as listed buildings or certain conservation areas, and we’ll guide you through this if it applies. Our team handles compliance and ensures your installation meets all current UK regulations.
